Kitchen Must Haves: Coconut Oil
Oh,what a time to be alive! As the world slowly deteriorates around us all, Black women keep pushing forward, doing their part, and being great all at the same time. More and more, I see the greatness of Black women discussed in mainstream media and it fills my heart. I live for randomly meeting women in the world and having conversation about hair care, fashion, mental health, and other disparities affecting our demographic.. The “sis” in “sisterhood” is more real than I have ever experienced-- and I am fully here for it, always ready to do my part.
Though I have great examples of what I will look like as I grow older, I sometimes get swept up in the the fear of aging badly. As I have officially entered my 30’s, I have become more concerned with making sure my Black doesn’t crack. I want to keep with the tradition of “keepin’em guessing”: is she 25 or 55? With that, this post will be dedicated to the power of coconut oil...the ultimate Kitchen (or rather house) Must Have.
Coconut oil was my savior when it swooped in to clear up my acne because other facial moisturizers where clogging my pores. Coconut oil followed through when I needed a makeup remover and my homegurl from college told me “oil base is the best.” Coconut oil gave me options when I wanted to break away from olive oil, just to switch it up. Coconut oil keeps my skin so nice after a scrub, shaving, clay/charcoal mask. Oh, and I learned that a little coconut oil on the nails will keep them strong and healthy as well!
I do not have any recipes for you, to be honest. I just wanted to take a moment to spread the goodness of coconut oil. At this point, everyone should know life would be better if you just listen to Black women. For some years now, we have been trying to spread the gospel of this power. So do yourself a favor: go get you some! I bought mine - 32 ounces for $10 online - and it typically lasts me a few months. One jar, countless uses.
Happy Livin Y'all :)
