Brown Citrus Refresher
The best thing about summer: lemonade. I understand the beverage can be enjoyed all year around, but it just tastes better in the hot summer sun to me. One year, Momma found a recipe for lemonade in O Magazine and decided we would create this homemade deliciousness. We did it once, and never tried it again! Do you know how many lemons have to be squeezed to make a pitcher of this drink??? Final answer: too many.
This experience did not stop be from enjoying lemonade...I still make something similar, simpler, and a lot more grown up. I give to you Brown Citrus Refresher: the slight bitterness of citrus, with the sweetness of brown sugar, topped with a sparkling water...and the kick of spiced rum! Enjoy and let me know what you think.
Money Matters
It costs about $19 to make 4-6 drinks, because I had some of the items on hand. It would run closer to $25, so around $6/drink. A simple drink for a low price!

This recipe can be used as a base. I would play around with the flavors in a couple of different ways:
Muddle some berries
Try adding a soda instead of seltzer
You can buy the pre-made lemonade if low on time, and it’s still good!
My Recipe
1 cup brown sugar
1 ½ cups water
6 lemons, or enough for 1 cup of juice
4 limes, or enough for ⅓ cup of juice
½ cup pineapple juice
1 can pineapple slices
2 shots of rum (per drink)
Ice cubes
1 splash of flavored seltzer
Directions
Boil water and sugar together for 3 mins, or until sugar is fully dissolved. Allow simple syrup to cool.
Squeeze the lemons and limes. Add juices together and mix with pineapple juice.
In your glass, muddle a slice of pineapple. Add ice, 1 part citrus mixture and 1 ½ part simple syrup. Lightly shake then top with a splash or up to 1 part seltzer. Serve and enjoy!
Happy Drinkin Y’all :)
